35 And the Battle increased that Day: and the King was stayed up in his Chariot againft the Syrians, and died at Even: and the Blood ran out of the Wound into the midft of the Chariot.

36 And there went a Proclamation throughout the Hoft, about the going down of the Sun, faying, Every Man to his City, and every Man to his own Countrey.

37 So the King died, and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the King in Samaria.

38 And one washed the Chariot in the Pool of Samaria, and the Dogs licked up his BLOOD, and they washed his Armour, according unto to the WORD of the LORD which he spake.

39 Now the reft of the Acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the Ivory House which he made, and all the Cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Ifrael?

40 So Ahab flept with his Fathers, and Ahaziah his Son reigned in his ftead.

41 And JEHOSHAPHAT the Son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth Year of Ahab King of Ifrael.

42 Jehoshaphat was thirty and five Years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five Years in Jerufalem and his Mother's Name was Azubah the Daughter of Shishi.

43 And he walked in all the Way of Afa his Father, he turned not aside from it, doing that which was RIGHT in the Eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high Places were not taken away; for the People offered and burnt Incenfe yet in the high Places.

44 And Jehoshaphat made Peace with the King of Ifrael.

II. CHRO N. CHA P. XIX.

Jebashaphat reproved by Jehu vifiteth his Kingdom: 5 His Inftructions to the Judges, 8 to the Priests and Levites.

House in Peace to Jerufalem.

2 And Jehu the Son of

Pfal. xv. I LORD, who fhall abide Hanani the SEER, went out in thy Tabernacle? who shall dwell to meet him, and faid to King in thy holy Hill?

Jehoshaphat, Shouldst thou help the UNGODLY, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is WRATH upon thee from before the LORD.

3 Nevertheless, there are good Things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the Groves out of the Land, and haft PREPARED thine HEART to SEEK GOD.

4 And Jehoshaphat dwelt in Jerufalem: and he went out again through the People, from Beer-fheba to Mount Ephraim, and brought them. back unto the LORD GOD of their Fathers.

2 HE that WALK ETH UPRIGHTLY, and WORKETH RIGHTEOUSNESS, and SPEAK

ETH the TRUTH in his Heart.

4 In whofe Eyes a VILE PERSON IS CONTEMNED: but he honoureth them that fear the LORD: he that fweareth to his own Hurt and changeth not.

Pfal. cxxxix. 19 Surely thou wilt flay the Wicked, O GOD: depart from me therefore, ye bloody Men.

20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine Enemies take thy Name in vain.

21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with thofe that rife up against thee faid unto the LORD, Thou art my LORD: my Goodness extendeth not to thee,

Pfal. xvi. 2 O my Soul, thou haft

3 But to the SAINTS that are in the Earth, and to the EXCELLENT in whom is all my Delight,

5 And he fet Judges in the Land, throughout all the fenced Cities of Judah,

6 And faid to the Judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for Men, but for the LORD, who is with in the JUDGMENT.

7 Wherefore now let the FEAR of the LORD be upon you, take heed and do it: for there is no Iniquity with the LORD our GOD, nor Respect of Perfons, nor taking of Gifts.

8 Moreover, in Jerufalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the Priefts, and of the chief of the Fathers of Ifrael, for the Judgment of the LORD, and for Controverfies, when they returned to Jerufalem.

9 And he charged them, faying, Thus fhall ye do in the FEAR of the LORD, FAITHFULLY, and with a PERFECT Heart.

10 And what Caufe foever fhall come to you of your Brethren that dwell in their Cities, between Blood and Blood, between Law and Commandment, Statutes and Judgments, ye fhall even warn them that they TRESPASS not against the LORD, and fo WRATH Come upon you and your Brethren: This Do, and ye fhall not TRESPASS.

11 And behold, Amariah the chief Prieft is over you in all Matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the Ruler of the Houfe of Judah, for all the King's Matters: alfo the Le

vites fhall be Officers before you. Deal couragioufly, and the LORD fhall be with the Good.

CHA P. XX.

1 Jehoshaphat in his Fear proclaimeth a Faft: 5 His Prayer. 14 The Prophecy of Jahaziel. 20 Jehoshaphat exhorteth the People, and fetteth Singers to praise the LORD. 22 The great Overthrow of the Enemies. 26 The People having bleffed GOD at Beracha, return in Triumph. 31 Jehoshaphat's Reign: 35 His Convoy of Ships which he made with Ahaziah, according to the Prophecy of Eliezer, unhappily perished.

'I

T came to pass after this alfo, that the Children of Moab, and the Children of Ammon, and with them other befide the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to Battle.

2 Then there came fome that told Jehoshaphat, faying, There comes a great multitude against thee from beyond the Sea on this fide Syria, and behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar which is En-gedi.

3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and fet himself to SEEK the LORD, and proclaimed a Faft throughout all Judah.

4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ASK HELP of the LORD: even out of all the Cities of Judah they came to feek the LORD.

5 And Jehoshaphat ftood in the Congregation of Judah, in the House of the LORD.

6 And faid, O LORD GOD of our Fathers, art not thou GOD in HEAVEN? and RULEST not thou over all the KINGDOMS of the Heathen? and in thine Hand is there not POWER and Might, fo that NONE is able to WITHSTAND thee.

7 Art not thou our God, who didft drive out the Inhabitants of this Land before thy People Ifrael, and gaveft itto the Seed of Abraham thy Friend for ever?

8 And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a Sanctuary therein for thy Name, faying,

9 If when Evil cometh upon us, as the Sword, Judgment, or Peftilence, or Famine, we ftand before this Houfe," and in thy Prefence (for thy Name is in this Houfe) and cry unto thee in our Affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

10 And

10 And now, behold, the Children of Ammon, and Moab, and Mount Seir, whom thou wouldeft not let Ifrael invade, when they came out of the Land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not.

11 Behold, I fay, how they reward us to come to caft us out of thy Poffeffion, which thou haft given us to in

herit.

12 fO our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have NO MIGHT against this great Company that cometh against us: neither KNOW WE WHAT to do, but our EYES are upon thee.

13 And all Judah ftood before the LORD, with their Little ones, their Wives, and their Children.

14 Then upon Jahaziel a Levite of the Sons of Afaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the Congregation :

15 And he faid, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye Inhabitants of Jerufalem, and thou King Jehoshaphat, Thus faith the LORD unto you, Be not AFRAID, nor difmayed by reafon of this great Multitude; for the BATTLE is not YOURS, but GOD'S.

16 To-morrow go ye down against them behold, they come up by the Cliff of Ziz, and ye fhall find them at the End of the Brook, before the Wilderness of Zeruel.

f Pfal. cxli. 8 Mine Eyes are unto thee, O GOD the LORD: in thee is my TRUST, leave not my Soul deftitute.

9 Keep me from the Snare which of the Workers of Iniquity. they have laid for me, and the Grins

10 Let the Wicked fall into their Own Nets, whilft that I withal efcape.

Pfal. 1. 15 CALL upon me in the DAY OF TROUBLE; I will DELIVER thee, and thou shalt GLORIFY me.

Phil. iv. 6 Be careful for nothing: but in EVERY THING by PRAYER and SUPPLICATION with THANKSGIVING, let your REQUESTS be made Knows

unto God.

Pfal. xxvii. The LORD is my LIGHT and my SALVATION, whom fhall I FEAR? the LORD is the STRENGTH of my LIFE, of whom shall I be AFRAID.

2 When the Wicked, even mine

Enemies and my Foes come upon me to eat up my Flesh, they ftumbled and fell.

3 Though an HOST fhould encamp though WAR fhould rise against me, against me, my Heart fhall not fear: in this will I be CONFIDENT.

4 One Thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I feek after, that I may dwell in the House of the LORD all the Days of my Life, to behold the BEAUTY of the LORD, and to ca

quire in his Temple.

s For in the Time of TROUBLE he fhall HIDE me in his Pavilion: in the Secret of his Tabernacle fhall he hide me, he fhall fet me up upon a Rock.

17 Ye fhall not need to fight in this Battle; fet yourselves, ftand ye ftill, and fee the SALVATION of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerufalem: FEAR not, nor be difmayed; To-morrow go out a gainst them, for the LORD will be with you.

18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his Head, with his Face to the Ground: and all Judah, and the Inhabitants of Jerufalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

19 And the Levites of the Children of the Cohathites, of the Children of the Korhites, ftood up to praise the LORD GOD of Ifrael with a loud Voice on high.

20 And they rose early in the Morning, and went forth into the Wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood, and faid, Hear me, O Judah, and ye Inhabitants of Jerufalem, BELIEVE in the LORD your God, fo fhall you be ESTABLISHED; BELIEVE his PROPHETS, fo fhall ye PROSPER.

21 And when he had confulted with the People, he appointed Singers unto the LORD, and that should praife the BEAUTY of HOLINESS, as they went out before the Army, and to fay, & PRAISE the

LORD, for his MERCY EN-
DURETH for ever.

8 Pfal. cxxxvi. 1 O give Thanks unto the LORD, for he is good for his Mercy endureth for ever.

22 And when they began to SING and to PRAISE, the LORD fet Ambushments against the Children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, which were come against Judah, and they were smitten,

23 For the Children of Ammon and Moab ftood up against the Inhabitants of Mount Seir, utterly to SLAY = and DESTROY them and when they had made an End of the Inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to DESTROY another.

Pfal. lxvi. 1 Make a joyful Noife unto GOD, all ye Lands.

2 Sing forth the HONOUR of his

NAME: make his PRAISE GLORIOUS.

3 Say unto GOD, HOW TERRIBLE art thou in thy Works! through the GREATNESS of thy POWER fhall thine Enemies fubmit themselves unto thee.

s Come and fee the Works of GoD: he is TERRIBLE in his Doing toward the Children of Men.
