It is probable that there is no class of writings which have proved more interesting and profitable, than religious biography; and this is the reason why works of this description are so abundant. In looking over the list of those which have excited the most interest, we find that a great portion of them contain the history of men, who have filled a large space in the public eye, as distinguished for talents and piety, or as stationed on a field of labor, where their movements were attended by circumstances of peculiar interest. This volume does not claim to belong to this description. The subject of it was, indeed, a good man, and a faithful minister of Jesus Christ, but has neither occupied a distinguished position in public regard, nor has his field of labor, or the incidents of his life, presented any thing of peculiar interest to attract public notice.
