COMPRISING A

CONCISE COMPENDIUM AND EXPOSITION

OF THE

Old and New Testaments,

UNDER THE WONDERFUL FIGURES OF

[blocks in formation]

PROEM.

It is with feelings of diffidence I bring the product of my researches before the public eye, for in the world there are so many books, written by abler pens than mine, that were they side by side I fear that mine would fall into insignificance, as regards the composition; but yet, I trust, the subject itself will stand as high as any, and that none will deem it beneath their notice.

My object in publishing this work is, to induce those who are lovers of order and harmony to look upon the works of God as shewn to us in the Bible, in nature, and in ourselves, that they may see, adore, and love Him by whom all things were made in order, harmonious and complete.

Jehovah made all

Order was heaven's first law. things by weight, number, and measure. The numbers by which we count are seven and three; beyond these we cannot go. Seven is the finite number, three the infinite, man is a compound of sevens, God is the three in one, complete in himself. If we add those numbers together, the finite and the infinite make ten-that is, one and a cypher. God the one eternal, and man the cypher. Beyond (as I said before) we cannot count, for

when we have got to ten we count seven tens and three tens, and that makes but one and cyphers. Then we count seven hundred and three hundred; still we have but one and cyphers. Thus we may go on to the highest number in arithmetic and further, till the finite mind is lost in labyrinths of endless supputation without being able to count more than one and cyphers, and it is singular, that the infinite number, after being multiplied by itself, (that is three by three,) then you may multiply it as often as you will, and by adding up the product you will bring it to the same. Say thus, nine elevens are ninety-nine, set down nine and nine, add them together and you have eighteen. Set down one and eight, add those together and you have the nine, and so it is, multiply the figure as often as you will, nine still remains, or three times three-that is, God the father three in one, God the son three in one, God the Holy Ghost three in one, and yet they are not nine Gods, nor three Gods, but one God alone. The weight, number, and measure, according to the Almighty's rules, were he to tell us in his own terms, we should not be able to comprehend; therefore that we may understand and benefit thereby; he shews us by our own figures, (three and seven) how all things were made complete. Creation was finished within seven days, the waters were gathered into the seventh part of the earth, and in man the seventh part of creation, all things were made complete.

The number of years that good men live (as recorded in the Bible) are always found divisible by

seven and three. they many or few. word of truth says, their days.

Their days are full and complete, be
It is not so with the wicked, for the

the wicked shall not live out half

The seventh day was designed to be a day of rest for man, and in the Mosaic law the seventh year was to be a year of rest for the land; and after seven such fallow years, there was to be an extraordinary year of rest, typical of that rest which the saints are privileged to enjoy; the beginning of it we anticipate in the Millenium.

Man was made in the image of his Maker. As there are three persons in the Godhead, so there are three parts in man; body, soul, and spirit. This is one of the bible's wonderful mysteries, which is laid down for faith to take hold of. Blessed are they who see not, and yet believe. Isaiah declares, by the command of God, that the bible is a sealed book, so long as the wicked remain in the land. Although this book is sealed, yet Jesus says, that when he, the spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, and he will shew you things to come. Those who look upon the bible as a sealed book, and will not seek the Holy Spirit's aid, woe to them; and those who are unlearned, who can't read and wont hear, woe to them; and those who hear and lightly regard, thinking to hide their counsel from the Most High, woe to them; but let us search the scriptures and pray for light and wisdom, having faith in the power of God, then this sealed book will be opened to us, full of
