Sir E. Landseer 3711 The Horse Fair. India proof before letters. Rosa Bonheur The plate was destroyed Dec. 13, 1858. The painting was purchased from Gambart the publisher, by W. T. Wright, Esq.. Weehawken, N. J., and by him loaned for public exhibition in N. Y., and is now, through gift of Cornelius Vanderbilt, the property of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The engraver's reputation was largely increased by the success of this plate. He left at his decease five thousand pounds for a legacy, free of duty, to the Artists' General Benevolent Institution.
