ALMIGHTY God, we desire to approach thee with true hearts, and in the full assurance of faith. We know from thy word that the preparation of the heart and the answer of the tongue are from thee. Oh, be pleased, in thy great mercy, to prepare our hearts, and cause thine ear to hear.

We beseech thee to pardon all our sins. We know that they are many and greatly aggravated. We confess with shame that we have sinned against thee in times and ways innumerable. But, blessed be thy name, there is forgiveness with thee that thou mayest be feared! It is thine own word that assures us that God so loved the world as to give his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have everlasting life. His blood cleanseth from all sin. Oh, for his sake, take away iniquity and receive us graciously. Be merciful to our unrighteousness, and remember our sins no more.

We pray for deliverance, not only from the guilt, but from the pollution and power of sin. We desire to regard it as the abominable thing that thou hatest. Grant us a deeper feeling of its exceeding sinfulness. May we view it, even under the most plausible disguise, as an inveterate enemy, and wage with it a lifelong warfare. Make us, O Father, entirely like thyself. Impress upon us completely thine own image. May we be holy as thou art holy, and perfect as thou art perfect. In thy light may we see light. Teach

us thy way, O Lord, and lead us in a plain path. Order our steps in thy word, and let no iniquity have dominion over us. Fill us with the knowledge of thy will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that we may walk worthy of God unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. May we be sincere and without offence until the day of Christ, and filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, unto thy glory and praise.

And remember, O Lord, thine own truth. Bless it abundantly in the earth. May it strike its roots deep and bear much fruit. May thy word have free course and be glorified. Set before thy servants who proclaim it an open door which no power can shut. Give them a single eye unto thy glory. May they know nothing among those where their lot is cast but Jesus Christ and him crucified. May it be their meat and drink to do his will, and let them be blessed-blessed abundantly, in their labour. May many be turned daily from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God. We remember the afflicted; have mercy upon them, O Lord, and grant them the patience that will work experience; and experience, hope; the hope that maketh not ashamed. Favour all the instrumentality that is employed to promote knowledge and religion among men with thy counsels and thy benediction. May the ends of the earth speedily remember and turn to the Lord. May Israel soon blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit. And blessed be thy glorious name for ever; and let the whole earth be filled with thy glory. Amen! and Amen!

O LORD, we have seen with our eyes, and heard with our ears, what thou hast done to those that call upon thee. Thou didst hearken to Abraham and guide him by thy wisdom. Thou didst listen to Jacob, and preserve him in all his goings, and didst make him great. The prophets cried unto thee, and they were heard. Apostles sought thee, and thou didst abundantly bless them. Our fathers trusted in thee, and were not ashamed, and we can set our seal to the truth, that thou hearest prayer. Unto thee all flesh shall come. Enable us to rely on thine unfailing bounty, and thine unchanging faithfulness. Thou keepest covenant and mercy with them that love thee; thou shalt therefore be our refuge and dwelling-place. Oh take away the sin which obstructs our approach unto thee; reconcile our hearts to thy government and character. Help us, O Lord, ever to say as we think of thy doings of old. He is God-is our God for ever and ever, he shall be our guide even down to the grave. Whom have we in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that we desire besides thee!

Unite us as a family in the faith and hope of the gospel. Thou knowest our weakness and our wants. O Lord, supply them out of thy riches in glory, by Christ Jesus. Let our corruptions be checked; let our graces be strengthened, and may we all be taught effectually to walk with thee in righteousness and true holiness. Qualify us for our several duties. Make us

faithful in them. And may we be kind and tenderhearted to one another, and cherishing the spirit of forgiveness and affection towards all men. Make us useful and happy. Take away our selfishness, and may we live not for ourselves, but for one another, and all live unto thee. Oh sanctify us by thy grace. Let the dispensations of thy providence do us good, and may we cheerfully and heartily submit to all thy will.

Oh have mercy on our brethren of mankind. Pity and save the guilty and perishing. Instruct the ignorant, and those who are out of the way. Be gracious to the afflicted, and may they hope in thee; and mercifully sustain the widow and the orphan, and let the poor and the needy obtain a sufficiency to meet their wants. Be merciful to our land, and may religion increase in our midst. Have respect to the covenant, for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty; and let thy light and thy truth effectually go forth through all lands. Let the glory of the Lord be revealed, and all flesh see it together, for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Accept of our humble thanks, O God, for thy goodness through the day. Thy care over us has made us rejoice in the outgoings of both the morning and the evening. We pray for a deep and abiding sense of our obligations to thee the God of our lives. Have us under thy keeping to-night. Be about our bed, and hold our souls in life. In the night watches, if we wake, may we think of thee; encompass us as we sleep with thy favour, as with a shield, and be our portion for ever. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

JOHN XI.

MORNING HYMN.

"Yet have I set my King upon my holy hill of Zion."

ZION'S King shall reign victorious,
All the earth shall own his sway;
He will make his kingdom glorious;
He will reign through endless day.
What though none on earth assist him,
God requires not help from man ;
What though all the earth resist him,
God will realize his plan.

Nations now from God estranged,
Then shall see a glorious light;
Night to day shall then be changed,
Heaven shall triumph in the sight.
See the ancient idols falling,

Worshipp'd once, but now abhorr'd;
Men on Zion's King are calling,
Zion's King by all adored.

Mighty King, thine arm revealing,

Now thy glorious cause maintain; Bring the nations help and healing, Make them subject to thy reign; Angels in their lofty station

Praise thy name, thou only wise; Oh let earth with emulation

Join the triumph of the skies.
