I beg to announce as now in the press a memorial volume of the bicentennial of the Introduction of Printing into New York. 38 THE ISSUES OF THE PRESS IN NEW YORK, 1693-1783, by CHARLES R. HILDEBURN, 1 vol. 4to. in cloth, gilt top

1893

This work will be a volume of about five hundred pages, describing over twentyfive hundred items, of which full titles and collations will be given as far as possible. The descriptions will include all the books, pamphlets, broadsides and newspapers, issued by Bradford, Lenger, Guire, and other New York printers prior to 1784, which which were announced in the newspapers of that period, as well as those actually found. In its compilation, Mr. Hildeburn pursued the same course of personal research as in the case of his Issues of the Press of Pennsylvania, to which it will be similar in typography and binding. The TITLE-PAGES OF ABOUT TWENTY-FIVE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT BOOKS WILL BE REPRODUCED IN FACSIMILE.

The edition will be strictly limited to 450 copies.

MS. finely written in Naskhi, with an illuminated 'Unwán and nearly 300 painted illustrations of the text, many of them enriched with gold and silver; bound in Oriental green morocco extra

About 1640

A book of exceptional value and character. The work is very seldom seen illustrated in this manner, although none but copies of this kind can effectually represent the mind of the author. The pictures include subjects of astronomy, botany, zoology, and the traditional marvels of the world, and many of them are remarkably well drawn and painted. The figures of angels are generally upon a larger scale than the rest. 50*———————— ZAKARYA Ben Muhammed Ben Mahmud el Cazwini's Kosmographie herausg. von Wüstenfeld, 2 vols. large 8vo. Arabic, sd.

The Dictionary, as a work of explanation and reference, stands alone. Besides the explanation of terms used in Architecture, and in the Arts and Sciences connected therewith, biographical notices of Architects of all countries, with lists of their leading works, and references to books and illustrations, form a prominent and important feature. The topographical articles afford, under the headings of cities and chief towns, concise historical notices, with full information respecting the principal buildings, and the sources from which more detailed information may be obtained. The bibliographical lists, and references to Books, Journals, and Illustrations given in and also at the end of most of the articles, render the work a veritable "Index Librorum," affording the inquirer the fullest means for prosecuting his studies at the sources of information.

For many years this Dictionary remained unfinished. It is now finished, the last part having been issued in May, 1892. Having performed its task the Society intends to dissolve. The price at which the few remaining cepies of the Dictionary and its Illustrations is announced is £21, but it must be remembered that these terms are not inclusive of the twelve parts of "Essays and Illustrations," which are quite out of print and very scarce.
