The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1. 21. Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh, which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: fhall we not much rather be in fubjection unto the Father of Spirits, and live? Heb. 12. 9, 10.

Humble your felves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Cafting all your care upon him, for he careth for you. 1 Pet. 5. 6, 7. Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man, for the punishment of his fins? Lam. 3. 39.

O remember not against me former iniquities: let thy tender mercies Speedily prevent me: for I am brought very low. Pfal. 79. 8.

The Lord is merciful and gracious, flow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will be keep his anger for ever. For he knoweth our frame:

he remembreth that we are Duft. Like as a father pitieth his Children; fo the Lord pitieth them that fear him. Pfal. 103. 8, 9,

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal "weight of glory. 2 Cor. 4. 17. Why art thou caft down, O my Soul? and why art thou difquieted within me? Hope thou in God, for I fhall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance and my God. Pfal. 42. 11.

When I am weak, then am I Strong. 2 Cor. 12. 10. And though the outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. Whilst we look not at the things which are feen, but at the things which are not feen: For the things which are seen are Temporal; but the Things which are not feen are Eternal. 2 Cor. 4. 16, 18.

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I fay, on the Lord. Pfal. 27. 14.

But when we are judged, we are chaftened of the Lord, that we fhould not be condemned with the world. I Cor. 11. 32.

Bleed is the man that endureth Temptation: for when he is tried, he fhall receive the Crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Jam. 1. 12.

And behold we account them happy which endure. Te have heard of the Patience of Job, and have Jeen the end of the Lord: that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. Jam. 5. 11.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I may learn · thy Statutes. I know, O Lord, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness haft afflicted me. Pfal. 119. 71, 75.

Wherefore let them that fuffer according to the will of God, commit the keeping of their Souls to him in well-doing, as unto a faithful Creator. 1 Pet. 4. 19.

tience and Submiffion under the Pains and Confinement of a Sick Bed.

Whatever thou fhalt please to lay upon me, it is thy Doing, and my Deferving.

Canft not thou do what thou wilt with thine own? I will therefore lay my hand upon my Mouth, and fay, It is the Lord, let him do what feemeth him Good.

But why do I complain of what I have deferved? Where fore doth a living man complain, a man for the Punishment of his Sins? O, let me never charge God foolishly, nor offend thee by an impatient and uneafy Spirit.
