XV. The case of those who withstand the appointed means of repentance. Matt. xiii. 13, 14. Jesus said, I speak to them in parables; because they seeing, see not; and hearing, they hear not; neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: (Isa. vi. 9.) Ver. 15. For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should

FRUITFULNESS.

XXXVIII. Fruitfulness in religion. Ps. i. 3. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season.

xcii. 14. They shall bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing. See ver. 12, 13. Ps. lxxxiv. 7. Prov. iv. 18. The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth, &c.

Isa. v. 4. What could have been done more to my vineyard that I have not done in it, to make it fruitful.

Jer. xxxi. 12. Their soul shall be as a watered garden. Mal. iv. 2.

Hos. xiv. 5. I will be as the dew unto Israel; he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.-Ver. 8. I am like a green fir-tree; from me is thy fruit found.

v. 9. The fruit of the Spirit is in all righteousness, goodness, and truth.

Phil. i. 11. Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, to the praise and glory of God.

Col. i. 10. Walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work. Ch. ii. 6, 7.

James iii. 17. The wisdom from above is full of good fruits.
