MARCH 30-31.

DEUT. xviii. 19.

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

MATTHEW xxviii. 20.

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

H. FRY.

Christian pilgrims, fear not ye!
Let not fear your watchword be!
See a glorious champion nigh,
Jesus, risen to victory;

Present with his church is he,
Shield and sun and panoply ;
Sovereign Lord and favouring Friend

In a hallowed union blend;

Whilst our Saviour and our King

Listen to the suit we bring!

St. Mark.

APRIL 1-2.

MALACHI iii. 1.

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before

me.

MARK i. 2.

As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before Thee.

[blocks in formation]

Come, Jesus, come! and as of yore,
The prophet went to clear thy way,
A harbinger thy feet before,

A dawning to thy brighter day.

So now may grace, with heavenly shower,
Our stony hearts for truth prepare;
Sow in our souls the seed of power,

Then come and reap thy harvest there.

APRIL 3-4.

MALACHI iv. 5, 6.

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

MARK i. 4, 5.

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of Judea, and they of Jerusalem; and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

HABERSHON.

The morning cometh, when the Sun
Of Righteousness shall rise,
His ransomed church, all joined in one,
To summons to the skies.

The night is coming which will close
On all those false, false friends,

Who leagued are found with Jesu's foes,
When he from heaven descends.

APRIL 5-6.

2 SAMUEL vii. 14.

I will be his father and he shall be

my son.

MARK i. 11.

And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.

CONDER.

Thou art the everlasting Word,
The Father's only Son;
God manifestly seen and heard,

And heaven's beloved One.

Worthy, O Lamb of God art Thou,
That every knee to Thee should bow.

Throughout the universe of bliss,
The centre, Thou, and Sun,
The eternal theme of praise is this,
To heaven's beloved One:

Worthy, O Lamb of God art Thou,
That every knee to Thee should bow.

APRIL 7-8.

ZECH. iii. 1.

And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

MARK i. 13.

:

And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

TURNER.

Beyond the glittering starry sky,
Which God's right hand sustains,
There, in the boundless world of light,
Our great Redeemer reigns.

Legions of angels, strong and fair,
In countless armies shine;
At his right hand with golden harps,
They offer songs divine.

Whilst from the sons of men on earth,
He suffered rude disdain;

They laid their honours at his feet,
And waited in his train.
