It may be that judgment will first begin at the house of God. The past year was a "year of the right hand of the Most High." It was a year of mercies. We have not rendered unto the Lord according to all his benefits. "We sang the praises of the Most High; but have soon forgotten his works." God may now visit us with his swift judgments. Shall we not hear, and fear, and do no more wickedly? If every one of us repent of our sins and cry mightily to God, who can tell, if the Lord will turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? A timely repentance once saved a great city, that was devoted to destruction; and may it not save a nation from the destroying angel, who has already received his commission to go forth to the work of slaughter?

Dearly beloved, whatever God is about to do with this guilty nation, your hope is in your God. He will do all things well. If he sees fit to send judgments, he will correct us in mercy. Our punishment will be less than our sins deserve.

Brethren, time is short. What you do, do quickly. Whether you shall fall victims to the cholera or not, you will soon stand before the Son of man. It is high time to awake out of sleep; for now is your salvation nearer than when you believed. "The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Walk as children of the day." Blessed and happy are those servants, whom, when their Lord cometh, he shall find so doing. Then will you hear the approving plaudit, "Well done, good and faithful servants, enter ye into the joy of your Lord."
