On old Christmas Day, Mr. T. Davis, fadler, of Broomyard, died in the 87th year of his age. It is fingular, that his father, an uncle, and two of his coufins, and his nephew, all died on the anniversary of the fame day.

Died.] At Monmouth, Rev. Mr. Price, a very fingular character. He was a man of the most penurious habits; and refided alone in a fmall tenement in Monk-ftreet. He was formerly the officiating minifler of an adjoining parish, but had declined his clerical functions for fome years. He has bequeathed his property, fuppofed to be confiderable, to an only brother.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE.

A very daring banditti, fupposed to inhabit the forest of Dean, have committed various robberies in that neighhourhood. At Rofs, Linton, Hope's-Afa, and Ecclefwal-court, they have plundered feyeral granaries, and impreffed herfes to carry off the hooty.

Oxford Canal thares of £.100 ftock are now worth £.194 each, as far as a fale by auction can be received as a criterion. Canal hares, and particular breeds of cattle and fheep have for fome years been moft impudently puffed by 6titious biddings and purchases at tham auctions.

A French emigrant lady, of the name of Mellier, was found dead in the Shrewsbury age, when it stopped at the Wheatsheaf, at Wotten.

The reader of Anatomy will begin his courfe of Lectures on Human and Comparative Anatomy, on the 3d of February, in the Anatomy School, Chrift Church.

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE.

The annual meeting of the Peterborough Agricultural Society was held on the 18th of December, when a premium of Two Guit neas was adjudged to William Collins of Far cett, a husbandman, for bringing up a family of eight children without parochial affiftance. Several premiums for the enfuing year were offered, particularly one of Ten Guineas for the greatest number of acres drained by underground drainage, either by ftones or brushwood.

NORFOLK.

On the 22d of December, as the Norwich Expedition Coach was on its journey between Stansted Mountfitchet and Hockrill, the leader, on which a poftillion rode, fuddenly fell, and the coach going with great velocity; the other horses went over the boy's body and killed him on the spot.

Some ferious difturbances have taken place at Norwich, in which feveral military officers and others appear to have been implicated; as the affair is now in the hands of the civil power, we forbear, at present, to mention the difgraceful particulars.

At Leicester Farm, near Creake, Lord Andover, eldeft fon of the Earl of Suffolk. His Lordship was on a vifit to his father-in-law, Mr. Coke, and was returning from shooting, when in the act of delivering his gun to the fervant who attended him, the piece went off, and its contents lodged in his fide and perforated the lungs. His lordfhip was a moft amiable man, and poffeffed abilities of the highest promise.

A Danish brig was lately driven on shore at Pakefield, and all the crew reached land except the mafter: his fon, a gallant youth, returned to the wreck to feek and fave him, but perished in the attempt. Both the bodies were cat on fhore the next day.

In a fit of apoplexy, aged 66, John Symonds, efq. vice admiral of the red. He was promoted to the rank of poft-captain in the year 1771, when he went out under Sir Robert Harland to the East Indies, in the Northumberland; was captain on board the Formidable,. in the memorable action of the 12th of April, 1782, under Lord Rodney; and fucceeded to the command of the Refolution on the death af Lord Robert Manners; from thence he was removed to the Warrior, which he commanded at the peace, and always diftinguished himself both as an able and gallant officer. He has ever fince refided at Bury.

. On the night of the 17th of January, about ten o'clock, that ancient and beautiful Structure, CHELMSFORD CHURCH, fuddenly became a pile of ruins. The roof, and a great part of the body of the church, fell with a moft tremendous crash to the ground. The organ and most of the monuments are, however, preferved undamaged. A melancholy accident happened lately at the, Britannia, in High-street, Chatham. a young man, belonging to the light-horfe, quartered there, and a Ruffin foldier, were the wing each other their different exercifes with a piftol, it went off, and killed the lighthorfeman on the spot.

On Friday, the 16th of January, about one hundred of the most respectable farmers within fifteen miles of Tonbridge, affembled in the market-place at that town, when it was agreed, that the corn-market should be reviv ed; and it is und food, that in future the market will be neld every Friday at twelve o'clock.

In the fecond week of this month, Neweatle coals were fold at Southampton at the enormous price of 60s. per chaldron ; but they were foon afterwards reduced to 50s. At the fame time that neceffary article was retailed to the poor at Is, per buthel. In London they fold, at the fame time, for nearly 61. per chaldron.

Mr. BECKFORD has lately fitted up and established a Houfe of Industry near Fonthill, folely at his own expence, into which fixty poor children have already been admitted, who are warmly clothed, wholefomely fed, and employed under the care of experienced teachers in the preparing and spinning of wool. To extend the benefits of ufeful industry, work has also been given out by his orders at Fonthill and its vicinity to at least two hun→ dred women, who had before exifted in a state of idleness, and of the moft wretched poverty.

Lately was baptized, at Bradford, the infant fon of George Hayward Tugwell, efq. the fponfors were, the child's great grandfather, and three great grandmothers, whofe united ages amounted to 345 years.

At a meeting of the fubfcribers of the SaHibury and Southampton Canal (now execut-, ing), it was refolved to apply to Parliament fur leave to raile the fum of 30,000l. by way. of mortgage only, which the company is now empowered to raife by other means; and upwards of 4,cool. was immediately offered by the gentlemen of Salisbury, to complete their part of the canal, whilft a fum, nearly equal, Was offered by the gentlemen of Southampton,

three houfes, in Blyke-ftreet, Shaftesbury, were alfo lately deftroyed by fire.
