To be fure I shall

run diftracted. And fo, partly for Quietness fake, and partly from Complaifance, not a Word is faid of the Matter; the dear Thing is clapt to the Heart; it clings, and grows to the Affections; and when fnatched away, no Wonder if the Parents grieve and lament. They feem to have had no Notion of their dear Creature's being mortal: It overfets them at once, because they have no Confideration about them to hinder its doing fo; nothing that can weaken the Influence of their Vexation. Whereas he is a wife Man indeed, who prepares both for his own Death and the Death of his Friends; who fo improves his Forefight of Troubles, as to abate the Uneafinefs

Uneafiness of them; and puts in practice that Philofophic Refolution I have read of, with which I conclude this Address: 1 am thinking with myself every Day, how many Things are dear to me; and after I bave confidered them as temporary and perifbing, I prepare myself, from that Minute, to bear the Lofs of them. without Weakness.

SECT. I.

Allowances made to the Mourner, and which will be made both by God and Man.

OME Allowance will furely be made for our natural Averfion to Troubles, by Him who knows our Frame. No Affliction for the prefent being joyous but grievous; it is well if afterwards it produces the peaceable Fruits of Righteousness. The Man muft feel; the Chriftian will fubmit. The Grace that exalts us to the Dignity of being the Children of God, does not lift us intirely above the Affections and Paffions which are common to Men: But what is better, it governs them by its Laws, and uses them to its own Purposes; and doth not eradicate but perfect our Nature.
