"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”

"The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him."

"It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him."

"For the Lord will not cast off for ever; but though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion, according to the multitude of his mercies."

"For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men."

"I called upon thy name, O Lord, out of the low dungeon. Thou hast heard my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry. O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life."---Lam. iii.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING FOR RECOVERY FROM SICKNESS.

"My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."-Ps. cxxi.

O Lord, thou hast been kind and merciful to me, graciously accept my thanks and praises, unworthy as I am even to lift up mine eyes towards thy throne eternal in the heavens. Thou hast raised me from a bed of sickness and languishing, mercifully pardon any expressions of impatience that may have escaped, any feelings of selfishness that may have taken possession of me whilst I was suffering under thy chastening hand. Thou hast renewed my youth like the eagle, O grant that I may keep as innocent as the dove; thou hast restored to me the free exercise of my rational faculties, O let their first offering be to thee, in humble thankfulness and adoration of thy goodness. O gracious God, thou hast shewn me the brink of the grave, let it be my care so to live that I may think of it but as the narrow bed wherein my earthly frame may be laid at decent rest, whilst the soul that thou hast given me shall seek thy kingdom, and be purified alike from sin and sorrow, out of thy inexhaustible

mercy. Let me never forget, O Lord, how frail I am, let me always bear in mind that from moment to moment I live but from thee; and that in health or sickness, joy or sorrow, prosperity or adversity, I am in thy keeping, and that all I have is thine : strengthen my soul, therefore, O Lord, as thou hast graciously strengthened my body; giving me grace to cast all my past transgressions far from me, and joyfully to serve thee, in newness and pureness of life, O my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

PRIVATE PRAYERS.

"Pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."---Matt. vi.

Morning Prayer for a Young Person.

"Lord, thou hearest the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart."---Ps. x.

Glory to thee, O God. Thou art worthy O Lord to receive glory, and honor, and power, for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. To thee, O heavenly

Father, I humbly offer up my thanks for thy goodness which hast sustained me throughout the night, and brought me safely to the beginning of another day. Mercifully continue thy loving-kindness to me, O Lord, and multiply thy blessings upon me, out of thine infinite goodness. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn thy commandments: order my steps in thy way, and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. "Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keep the door of my lips, that I sin not with my tongue." Increase in me reverence of thy wisdom, and adoration of thy love. Assist me with thy grace that I may honor my father and mother, according to thy commandment, and be " subject to them," after the example of my blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Favor me with a loving and generous disposition to my brothers and sisters, my relations and friends. Endue me with a meek and grateful spirit towards my teachers and spiritual instructors, and with an humble and lowly carriage to all my elders and my betters. Grant me a thankful sense and innocent enjoyment of the blessings belonging to my age and station, that I may serve thee according to thy will, with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things," which thy bounty vouchsafest unto me. Quicken me in my endeavour to profit

by the opportunity of instruction in useful and liberal knowledge, afforded me through the tender care of my parents, and grant that as I advance in years, and my faculties expand, my wisdom may make my father glad, and my righteousness rejoice the heart of my mother. For, let me, O Lord, above all things seek the knowledge of thee, and of "the wondrous things contained in thy law," and early fix my affections on that eternal heritage to which, even as a child, I am permitted to look, through thy mercy in the redemption of sinners, by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with me, and with this house, evermore. Amen.

Evening Prayer for a Young Person.

"The Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation."-Ps. cxlix.

O Almighty Father, I humbly implore thee to let my prayer come before thee as incense, the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice, in thankful acknowledgment of thy tender mercies, which have preserved me throughout the day. Forgive me, O Lord, all the evil which in the course of it I may have done; forgive me all my neglect of
