I am much gratified by the permission you have given me to place this little work under your protection. My object in drawing it up has been to assist in increasing the efficiency of the masters and mistresses of our National Schools, by introducing them to an acquaintance with the general principles of Practical Education, as set forth by writers of experience, and exemplified in the principal central and model schools in the kingdom. Every person engaged in the work of education ought to be pos sessed with the spirit of improvement. At the same Me it is'of the first importance to guard against the introduction of great or numerous, of sudden or fre quent, changes. It were good, says our great English philosopher, that men in their innovations would follow the example of time itself, which indeed.
