Barker (Thomas, of Bracemeale, Salop), Art of Angling; wherein are discovered many rare Secrets very necessary to be known by all that delight in that recreation. 12mo. London, 1651. Another edit. 4to. Lond. 1653, without the author's name. (It is sometimes annexed to the "Countryman's Recreations," 4to. 1654.) A reprint of the 1st edit. was published by Burn, in 1820, and the edit. of 1653 was reprinted at Leeds by Inchbold and Gawtress, 1817.

[A single copy of Burn's edition was printed on vellum, and four on straw-coloured paper. Of the Leeds edition a single copy was struck off in 4to. and sold at Prince's sale, 17. 48.]

Barker's Delight; or, the Art of Angling. By Thomas Barker. 2nd edit. with considerable additions and commendatory Verses prefixed. 12o. 1657 and 1659. Reprinted by Burn, London, 1820. Again by Hodgson and Co., some copies of which have the name of E. Bryant as publisher, 1826.

[A copy of Burn's edition was printed on vellum, and, with the foregoing vellum copy, sold at Stace's sale (1843) for 27. 2s. Four copies of the same edition were printed on straw-coloured paper. "Barker's Delight" is inserted in the "Young Sportsman's Miscellany," 12mo. 1836. In an epistle to the reader, prefixed to the 1st edition, and in the dedication of the second to Lord Montague, Baiker speaks of himself as having practised angling for half-a-century, adding: "If any noble or gentle Angler have a mind to discourse of these ways and experiments, I live in Henry VIIth's Gift, the next door to the Gatehouse in

Westminster, where I shall be ready to satisfie them and maintain my art: my name is Barker." The 2nd edition, so called, 12mo. 1657, with commendatory verses prefixed. is the first that has the title of "Barker's Delight." The edition of 1659 is the same as the preceding, with the exception of a new title-page. The original edition sold at Haworth's, 17s.; at Prince's, 11s. Barker was the first promulgator of the heresy of salmon-roe]

[By William Pickering. It forms the Appendix to Boosey's "Piscatorial Reminiscences." Some copies were printed separately. It was formed upon Sir Henry Ellis's List, and consists of 180 works, two or three of which, however, have no direct relation to angling.]
