2 It fets Times paft in present View,
Brings diftant Profpects home,
Of Things a thousand Years ago,
Or thousand Years to come.

3 By Faith we know the Worlds were made
By GoD's Almighty Word;
Abra'm, to unknown Countries led,
By Faith obey'd the LORD.

4 He fought a City fair and high,
Built by th' eternal Hands;
And Faith affures us, tho' we die,
That heav'nly Building ftands.

CXXI.

Children devoted to GOD, Gen. xvii.
Acts xvi. 14, 15, 33.

(For those who practise Infant Baptism.)

THU

HUS faith the Mercy of the LORD,
"I'll be a GOD to thee;

"I'll bless thy num'rous Race, and they
"Shall be a Seed for me."

2 Abra'm believ'd the promis'd Grace,
And gave his Son to GOD;
But Water feals the Bleffing now,
That once was feal'd with Blood.

3 Thus Lydia fanctify'd her Houfe,
When the receiv'd the Word;
Thus the believing Jailor gave
His Houfhold to the LORD.

4 Thus later Saints, Eternal King!
Thine ancient Truths embrace;

I

To thee their Infant Offspring bring,
And humbly claim the Grace.

CXXII. Believers buried with CHRIST in
Baptifm, Rom. vi. 3, &c.

D

O we not know that folemn Word,
That we are bury'd with the LORD;
Baptiz'd into his Death, and then
Put off the Body of our Sin.

2 Our Souls receive diviner Breath,

3

Rais'd from Corruption, Guilt, and Death:
So from the Grave did CHRIST arise,
And lives to GOD above the Skies.

No more let Sin or Satan reign
Over our mortal Flesh again;

The various Lufts we ferv'd before,
Shall have Dominion now no more.

CXXIII. The repenting Prodigal.
Luke xv. 13, &c.

Ehold the Wretch whofe Luft and Wine

BEhold

Had wafted his Eftate,..

He begs a Share amongft the Swine,

To tafle the Hufks they eat!

2" I die with Hunger here," he cries;
"I ftarve in foreign Lands;

"My Father's Houte has large Supplies,
And bounteous are his Hands.

3 "I'll go and with a mournful Tongue,
"Fall down betore his Face;
"Father, I've done thy Juftice wrong,
"Nor can deferve thy Grace."

4 He faid, and haften'd to his Home,
To feek his Father's Love;

The Father faw the Rebel come,

And all his Bowels move.

5 He ran,

and fell upon

his Neck,

Embrac'd and kifs'd his Son;

The Rebel's Heart with Sorrow brake,

For Follies he had done.

6" Take off his Clothes of Shame and Sin, (The Father gives Command)

"Drefs him in Garments white and clean, "With Rings adorn his Hand.

"A Day of Feafting I ordain;

"Let Mirth and Joy abound;

My Son was dead, and lives again,
"Was loft, and now is found."

CXXIV. The firft and second Adam,
Rom. v. 12, &c.

DEEP in the Duft before thy Throne,

Our Guilt and our Difgrace we own;

Great GOD! we own th' unhappy Name, Whence fprung our Nature and our Shame. z Adam the Sinner: At his Fall, Death, like a Conqu'ror, feiz'd us all;

A thoufand new-born Babes are dead,
By fatal Union to their Head.

3 But whilft our Spirits, fill'd with Awe,
Behold the Terrors of thy Law,
We fing the Honours of thy Grace,
That fent to fave our ruin'd Race.

4 We fing thine everlasting Son,
Who join'd our Nature to his own;
Adam the Second, from the Duft
Raifes the Ruins of the First.

5 [By the Rebellion of one Man
Thro' all his Seed the Mifchief ran;
And by one Man's Obedience now
Are all his Seed made righteous too.

6 Where Sin did reign and Death abound,
There have the Sons of Adam found
Abounding Life; there glorious Grace
Reigns thro' the LORD our Righteoufnefs.]

CXXV. CHRIST's Compaffion to the Weak and Tempted, Heb. iv. 15, 16. and v. 7. Matt. xxii. 2o.

WITH Joy we meditate the Grace

Of our High-Priest above;

His Heart is made of Tenderness

His Bowels melt with Love.

2 Touch'd with a Sympathy within,
He knows our feeble Frame;

He knows what fore Temptations mean,
For he has felt the fame.

3

But fpotlefs, innocent and pure,
The great Redeemer stood,
While Satan's fiery Darts he bore,
And did refift to Blood.

4 He in the Days of feeble Flesh
Pour'd out his Cries and Tears,
And in his Measure feels afresh
What ev'ry Member bears.

5 [He'll never quench the fmoking Flax,
But raise it to a Flame ;
The bruifed Reed he never breaks,
Nor fcorns the meaneft Name.]

6 Then let our humble Faith address
His Mercy and his Pow'r,
We shall obtain deliv'ring Grace
In the diftreffing Hour.

CXXVI. Charity and Uncharitableness,
Rom. xiv. 17, 19. 1 Cor. x. 32.

NOT

[OT diff'rent Food nor diff'rent Drefs, Compofe the Kingdom of our LORD; But Peace and Joy and Righteousness, Faith, and Obedience to his Word. 2 When weaker Chriftians we despise, We do the Gofpel mighty Wrong: For GoD the gracious and the wife, Receives the Fecble with the Strong. 3 Let Pride and Wrath be banish'd hence, Meeknefs and Love our Souls pursue ; Nor fhall our Practice give Offence To Saints, the Gentile or the jew.
