Then shall the Minister first receive the Communion in both kinds himself, and then proceed to deliver the same to the Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, in like manner, (if any be present,) and after that to the people also in order, into their hands, all meekly kneeling. And when he delivereth the Bread to any one, he shall say,

HE Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which

soul unto everlasting life. Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for thee, and feed on him in thy heart by faith with thanksgiving. ¶ And the Minister that delivereth the Cup to any one shall say,

Twas shed for thee, preserve thy body and

`HE Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which

soul unto everlasting life. Drink this in remembrance that Christ's Blood was shed for thee, and be thankful.

Before Communicating.

GOD, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hast reconciled us to Thyself in the death of Thy Son, grant me perfectly to believe, and most thankfully to receive, this Thine inestimable benefit. testimony of this great mercy, Thou callest Thy guests to Thy table: in the confidence of this great mercy, I now present myself

In

among them. Grant that, as by this holy ordinance Thou dost express Thy reconciliation and good-will towards me, so by the humble and thankful use of it I may testify a true return and reconciliation to Thee, through Jesus Christ thy Son. Amen.

JESUS said :—

Take eat this is My Body.

Drink ye all of it: for this is My Blood.
Do this in remembrance of Me.

MY Lord, Thou commandest, and I
obey: Thou callest, and I come.

I come to remember Thee, to meet Thee, to receive Thee. Yet am I unfit, unworthy, unclean, a sinner in thought and word and deed.

But as in Thy days upon earth Thou didst receive sinners and eat with them, so by the ordaining of this holy supper Thou hast provided a perpetual assurance that in Thy glorified life Thou dost receive them still.

I remember also that at the first institution

of these holy mysteries Thou didst rise from supper and wash Thy disciples' feet, and, to their great comfort, didst pronounce them clean every whit. Show now, I beseech Thee, the like mercy unto me; for if Thou wash me not, I have no part with Thee. I have confessed with Thy congregation my sin and shame; and with them have heard the word of absolution and release which has been spoken at Thy command. Oh, let it not be vain for me, or for any that are with me; but let us all come with a cleansed conscience and a mind at rest, to do that which Thou hast commanded, and to receive that which Thou hast promised, for Thy great mercy's sake. Amen.

ND now, O Holy Ghost the Comforter, come to me, as to one whom my Lord hath cleansed, and qualified by pardoning grace to receive Thy holy inspirations.

Cast out every thought and feeling unworthy of this moment.

Occupy and possess my soul.

Quicken my faith, and exalt my apprehensions.

Take of the things which are Jesus Christ's and show them to me.

Are we not met together in His name?
If ever we are, surely now.

Is He not, then, here in the midst of us? I desire to behold Him in His glory and in His grace, and to meet Him in His majesty and in His mercy.

I desire to know Him in the virtue of His Manhood and in the power of His Godhead. I ask for a full communion with Him, in the death which He died unto sin, and in the life which He lives unto God.

Dying, He gave Himself for me: living, He gives Himself to me. Oh, make my participation in this holy sacrament to be, both a thankful remembrance of the sacrifice of His death, and also a believing reception of His body and blood, for the food and nourishment of my soul, and for the present and eternal union of His life with mine, and of my life with His, according to the word of promise wherein He has caused me to hope.

GOD, Who gavest Thy blessed Son

to take upon Him our flesh, that He might ransom us by His death, and quicken us by His resurrection, redeeming us to Thee both in soul and body; grant me now to know and feel the fulness of that redemption, and also to offer worthily the sacrifice of praise for Thine unspeakable gift, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord; to whom, with Thee, O Father, and Thee, O Holy Ghost, be worship and honour and glory and blessing, world without end. Amen.

After Communicating.

LESS the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases:

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; and crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies.
