and perfect Happiness: through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

MOST Sweet Lord Jesu Christ, transfix the

affections of my inmost soul with that most joyous and healthful wound of Thy love, with true, serene, most holy, apostolic charity; that my soul may ever languish and melt with entire love and longing for Thee. Let it desire Thee, and faint for Thy courts; long to be dissolved, and be with Thee. Grant that my soul may hunger after Thee, the Bread of Angels, the Refreshment of holy souls, our daily super-substantial Bread, Who hast all sweetness and savour, and every pleasurable delight. Thee, Whom the Angels desire to look into, may my heart ever hunger after and feed upon, and may the appetite of my soul be filled with the sweetness of Thy savour. May it ever thirst for Thee, the Fountain of life, the Fountain of wisdom and knowledge, the Fountain of eternal light, the Torrent of pleasure, the Richness of the house of God. Let it ever compass Thee, seek Thee, find Thee, stretch towards Thee, arrive at Thee, meditate upon Thee, speak of Thee, and do all things to the praise and glory of Thy holy Name, with humility and discretion, with love and delight, with readiness and affection, with perseverance to the end; and be Thou ever my Hope, my whole Confidence, my

Riches, my Delight, my Pleasure, my Joy, my Rest and Tranquillity, my Peace, my Sweetness, my sweet Savour, my Food, my Refreshment, my Refuge, my Help, my Wisdom, my Portion, my Possession, my Treasure, in Whom my mind and my heart may ever remain fixed, and firm, and rooted immovably. Amen.

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

AND

ADDITIONAL THANKSGIVINGS
PRAYERS FOR THE EVENING OF

THE DAY OF COMMUNION.

Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away and thy sin purged. Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath mingled her wine, she hath also furnished her table.

My Beloved is mine, and I am His.

And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went

in the strength of that Meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb, the Mount of God.

O Lord Jesus Christ, my Creator and Redeemer, my God and my All, whence is this to me, that Thou, Whom Heaven and earth cannot contain, shouldest enter into my house of clay, and make Thine abode with me?

What return shall I make to Thee, O my Lord, for all the benefits which I have received from Thee? Blessed be Thy Name for ever. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me praise His Holy Name.

Like Zacchæus, I have this day presumed to receive Thee into my house; but, alas! with how little preparation! how little devotion! I grieve

over my coldness of heart, and my great unworthiness, which has rendered me so unfit to draw nigh unto Thee. But Thou seest, Searcher of hearts, all my sins. Drive away by Thy power all my spiritual foes, strengthen my weakness by Thy Heavenly might, subdue my evil passions and besetting sins, abide with me in all my trials and temptations, that I may never more be overcome, whom Thou hast deigned to unite to Thyself in the Mystery of Divine Love.

Grant, O Blessed Lord, that the hands which have received Thee may never again be the instruments of sin, that the lips which Thou hast sanctified may never utter aught displeasing to Thee, that the heart wherein Thou hast entered may ever abide in Thy love. O Crucified Saviour, grant that I may die to sin for the love of Thee, Who hast died on the Cross for me.

Graciously hear these my prayers, O Blessed Jesu; hide me in Thy Heart Which was pierced for me; protect me from my foes, that nothing may ever separate me from Thee; call me to Thee at the hour of my death, that I may praise Thee for evermore. And now I lay me down in peace and take my rest, for it is Thou, Lord, Who makest me to dwell in safety. O preserve me and abide with me, that when life's eventide is past, I may rest in Thee, and that this frail body, which Thou hast

sanctified by Thine own most precious Body, purified from its earthly stains in the grave, may be raised in incorruption, and when I wake up after Thy likeness I shall be satisfied with it.

Grant that I may indeed know Thee through this Blessed Sacrament, whereby Thou didst make Thyself known to the disciples at Emmaus, that Thou mayest abide with me until life's eventide is ended, and the eternal morn dawns upon my soul. Amen.

Prayer of S. Thomas Aquinas.

Lord, I believe, but would believe more firmly. Lord, I hope, but would hope more securely. Lord, I love, but would love yet more warmly. Lord, I grieve, but would grieve yet more deeply.

Thee I adore, Who art my first Beginning; Thee I desire, Who art my final End. Thee I praise, Who art my constant Benefactor; on Thee I call, Who art my kind Defender.

By Thy wisdom do Thou direct me; by Thy righteousness do Thou keep me; by Thy sweet mercy comfort and protect me.

I offer unto Thee, my Lord, my thoughts, that they may be towards Thee; my words, that they may be of Thee; my deeds, that they may be according to Thee; my sufferings, that they may be for Thee.

I will whatsoever Thou willest; I will, because
