glorious Author of our salvation, hath entered, so that in our conversation we may attain to that country whither we hasten by faith, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Whitsuntide.

LORD Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of the Eternal Father, who at the time of Thy glorious ascension didst command Thine Apostles to tarry in Jerusalem, until they were endued with power from on high; and when, in obedience to this Thy commandment, they had there continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, didst, according to Thy promise, send down upon them the Holy Ghost the Comforter; Grant, we beseech Thee, that we Thy most humble servants, abiding in the unity of Thy Holy Catholic Church, the Mother of us all, and continually serving Thee as Thou hast commanded, may be evermore replenished with the heavenly grace of the Holy Ghost, through Thy precious merits and most powerful intercession, who livest and reignest with the Father in the unity of the same Spirit, ever world without end. Amen.

WE

Saints' Days.

E beseech Thee, O Lord, to give us all grace to remember and provide for our latter end, by a careful studious imitation of this Thy blessed Saint (and Martyr), and all other Thy Saints (and Martyrs) that have gone before us, that we may be made worthy to receive benefit by their prayers, which they in communion with Thy Church Catholic offer up unto Thee, for that part of it here militant and yet in fight with and danger from the flesh; and that, following the blessed steps of their holy lives, we may also show forth the light of a good example; for the glory of Thy Name, the conversion of our enemies, and the improvement of those generations we shall shortly leave behind us; and then, with all those that have borne the heat and burden of the day (Thy servant particularly whose sufferings and labours we this day commemorate), may receive the reward of our labours, the harvest of our hopes, even the salvation of our souls, for the merits and through the mediation of Thy Son our blessed Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Missions.

LMIGHTY God, who didst give thine only Son our Lord Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the Cross for the redemption of mankind, hasten, we pray Thee, the time when all shall know Thee, and Him whom Thou hast sent. Grant to us Thy servants, who have entered into the labours of Thine Apostles and Martyrs, to follow the example of their zeal and patience, and to devote to the service of Thy Kingdom all that we can bestow. Send forth labourers unto thine harvest, and give them wisdom, endurance, and thorough reliance upon Thee. Hear us, O Father, for thy blessed Son's sake, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Self-Examination.

Examination of Conscience by the rule of God's Commandments.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

"Try me, O God, and seek the ground of my heart prove me, and examine my thoughts.

"Look well if there be any way of wickedness in me and lead me in the way everlasting." Ps. cxxxix. 23, 24.

LORD God, who lightenest every man man that cometh into the world, enlighten my heart, I pray Thee, with the light of Thy grace, that I may fully know my sins, shortcomings, and negligences, and may confess them with that true sorrow and contrition of heart which befits me. I desire

to amend my evil ways, to live more holily for the future, for the salvation of my soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FIRST COMMANDMENT.

Have I ever harboured any doubt about the existence of a God?

Have I ever indulged any doubt concerning the great doctrine of the Holy Trinity, or any other article of the Christian faith; as, for instance, the Incarnation, Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ?

Have I joined in any act of public worship not authorized by the Church?

Have I allowed any person or thing to occupy the first place in my heart, and so weaken my love for God?

SECOND COMMANDMENT.

Have I omitted my morning or evening prayers; said them hastily, and without kneeling; allowed my thoughts to wander
