PETER'S DEFENCE

HEN Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost,

THEN unto them, Ye rulers of the people,

said

and elders of Israel,

9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

ΙΟ

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

I I This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

12

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

THE SHADOW OF PETER

ND by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people.

15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. Acts 5

THE APOSTLES BEFORE THE COUNCIL

THEN Peter and the other apostles an

swered and said, We ought to obey God

rather than men.

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 And we are his witnesses of these things, and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

STEPHEN BEFORE THE COUNCIL

A

ND all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

STEPHEN'S VISION

Acts 6: 15

UT he, being full of the Holy Ghost,

BUT

looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord.

58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. 59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit! 60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he said this, he fell asleep.

Acts 7

SAUL'S CONVERSION

ND as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus, whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

6 And he, trembling and astonished, said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing

no man.

8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

PETER'S SERMON AT CORNELIUS'

HOUSE

HEN Peter opened his mouth, and said,

THON a truth I perceive that God is no

Of

respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation he that feareth him and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all :)

37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil: for God was with him.

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did, both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a

tree:

40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
