The Epiftle. St Jude i.

J

UDE the fervant of Jefus Chrift, and brother of James, to them that are fanctified by God the Father, and prelerved in Jefus Chrift, and called: Mercy unto you, and peace, and love be multiplied. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common falvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you, that ye fhould earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the faints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation; ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lafciviousnets, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jefus Chrift. 1 will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord having faved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness, unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them, in like manner giving themselves over to fornication, and going after ftrange flesh, are set forth for an example, fuffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewife also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

HESE things I command you, that ye love one another. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chofen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I faid unto you, The fervant is not greater than the Lord: if they have perfecuted me, they will alfo perfecute you; if they have kept my faying, they will keep yours alfo. But all these things will they do unto you for my names fake, because they know not him that fent me. O

Almighty God, who haft knit together thine elect in one communion and fellowship, in the myftical body of thy Son Chrift our Lord; Grant us grace fo to follow thy bleffed Saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to thofe unfpeakable joys, which thou haft prepared for them that unfeignedly love thee, through Jefus Christ our Lord. Amen.

On the COLLECT for all Saints Day.

O all-powerful God, who haft united all the members of Chrift's myftical body, the church, who according to the faith are Gods elect, (Tit. i. 1.) by bands and joints, with Chrift the head, (Col. ii 19.) grant us thy grace, that in purfuance of the examples, fet us by thy bleffed faints, we may exercife all the chriftian virtues in this world, and attain to the ineffable joys of the other; which eye hath not feen, nor ear hath heard, and which God hath prepared for them that love him, 1 Cor. ii. 9. Amen.

The Gofpel. St Matth. v. 1.

ESUS seeing the multitudes, went up into a mountain; and when he was fet, his difciples came unto him. And he opened his mouth, and taught them, faying, Bieffed are the poor in fpirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Bleffed are they that mourn for they fhall be comforted. Bleffed are the meek for they fhall inherit the earth. Bleffed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they fhall be filled. Bleffed are the merciful for they fhall obtain mercy. THE

ORDER for the ADMINISTRATION

OF THE

LORD'S SUPPER, or HOLY COMMUNION.

So many as intend to be partakers of the holy Communion, shall fignify their Names to the Curate at least fome time the day before.

And if any of thofe be an open and notorious evil liver, or have done any wrong to his neighbours by word or deed, fo that the Congregation be thereby offended; the Curate having knowledge thereof, fhall call him and advertise him, that in any wife he prefume not to come to the Lords Table, until he bath openly declared himself to have truly repented and amended bis former naughty life, that the Congregation may thereby be fatisfied, which before were offended; and that he bath recompenfed the Parties to whom he hath done wrong, or at least declare bimfelf to be in full purpose fo to do, as foon as he conveniently may.

The fame Order shall the Curate ufe with those betwixt whom be perceiveth malice and hatred to reign; not fuffering them to be partakers of the Lords Table, until he know them to be reconciled. And if one of the Parties, fo at variance, be content to forgive from the bottom of his heart all that the other bath trefpaffed against him, and to make amends for that be bimfelf bath offended; and the other Party will not be perfuaded to a godly unity, but remain ftill in his frowardness and malice: the Minifter in that cafe ought to admit the penitent perfon to the holy Communion, and not him that is obftinate. Provided, that every Minifter fo repelling any, as is specified in this, or the next precedent Paragraph of this Rubrick, phall be obliged to give an account of the fame to the Ordinary within fourteen days after at the fartheft. And the Ordinary fhall proceed against the offending perfon according to the Canon.
