BY-LAWS

OF

THE PORTSMOUTH ATHENÆUM,

ADOPTED FEBRUARY 2, 1824.

ART. 1. The stock and property of this Corporation shall be divided into one hundred shares, which shall be numbered from 1 to 100.

ART. 2. The owners of the above mentioned shares who shall become entitled to the same according to the laws of the Corporation, shall be deemed the proprietors of the Portsmouth Athenæum, and entitled to vote in all the meetings of the Corporation.

ART. 3. There shall be a tax of Five dollars per annum on every share.

ART. 4. If any Proprietor shall neglect to pay annually his fines, and the taxes and assessments which may be due on his share or shares, it shall be the duty of the Secretary to send to such delinquent proprietor a bill containing a statement in writing, in words or figures, of the amount of such fines, taxes or assessments so due and unpaid; and in case such fines, taxes or assessments shall not within thirty days after personal notice, be paid to the Secretary, it shall be the duty of the Secretary, to advertise such share for sale, by posting up a notice to that effect, expressing the number of the share and the proprietor's name, in the lower room of the Athenæum. And in case such fines, taxes or assessments shall not, within thirty days from the time of posting up said notice, be paid to the Secretary, it shall be the duty on of the
