The Anth. In thy beauty.

Pfalm. 44.

Eructavit cor meum.

S. Chryfoftom, S. Auftin, and almost all the interpreters agree that this pfalm is a kind of a fpiritual epithalamium, reprefenting the facred union between Jefus Chrift and bis Spoufe the church. S. Paul likewife in bis epiftle to the Hebrews, makes ufe of this pfalm to fbew the everlasting reign of the only Son of the Father over his elect. Some have thought that Solomon is the author, and that it was made upon the occafion of bis marriage with the daughter of Pharaoh, tho' others attribute it to David. But all agree in this that the true fenfe of it, intended by the Holy Ghoft, regards the mystery of the incarnation, and the union of the word with human nature.

Pfalm 45. Deus nofter refugium.daum5

Tonod

Since almost all the Fathers agree that this Pfalm, according to the literal fenfe, regards the Church perfecuted by the Infidels, and delivered from perfecution by the affiftance of our Lord, we ought rather to adhere to this opinion, than to that of fome other Interpreters, who apply this Pfalm only to David &torio Interpreter over enemies,

The waters made a noife, and were troubled; the mountains were troubled in his ftrength.

The ftrong current of a river rejoices the city of God; the higheft has fanctified his Tabernacle.

God is in the midft thereof, it shall not be moved; God will help it in the morning early.

Nations are troubled, and kingdoms are made to ftoop: he raised his voice, and the earth was moved.

The Lord of Hofts is with us, the God of Jacob is our defender.

Come, and fee the works of our Lord, what wonders he has done in the earth, making wars to ceafe, even to the end of the earth.

He fhall deftroy the bow, and break weapons, and fhields he fhall burn with fire.

Attend and fee that I am God; I fhall be exalted among the Gentiles, I fhall be exalted in the earth.

The Anth.

A habitation is in thee.

Pfalm 86. Fundamenta ejus.

David in this pfalm celebrates the praises of the city of Jerufalem, which in the prophetic fenfe may very well be applyed to the church of Christ, of which that city was the figure.

HE foundations thereof in the holy mountains; our Lord loves the gates of Sion above all the tabernacles of Jacob. Glorious things are faid of thee, O city of God.

I will be mindful of Rahab, and Babylon knowing me.

Behold the ftrangers and Tyre, and the people of the Ethiopians: these were there. Shall a man fay to Sion, that a man is born in her, who being the highest founded her?

Our Lord will declare it in the register of thofe people, and of princes, that have been

in her.

A habitation is in thee, as it were of all those who rejoice.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

The Anth. A habitation is in thee, as it were of all us, who rejoice, O holy mother of God.
