The Beginning of the Gospel

according to St. JOHN.

Glory be to thee, O Lord.

N the beginning was the word, and the

IN

word was with God, and God was the word. This was in the beginning with God, All things were made by him, and without him was made nothing, which was made: In him was life, and the life was the light of men and the light fhined in darkness, and the darknefs did not comprehend it. There was a man fent from God, whofe name was John. This man came for a teftimony, to give teftimony of the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but to give teftimony of the light. It was the true light, which enlightens every man that comes into this world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came into his own, and his own received him not. But to as

many as received him, he gave power to be made the Sons of God, to thofe that believe in his name: Who, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor the will of man, but of God are born: And the Word was made flesh,

and dwelt among us, (and we faw the glory of him, glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth,

abandon freely all temporal goods, which are but meer vanity.

I repent with all my heart of my fins, and that for the love of God.

I pardon with my heart and foul, all my

enemies.

I believe in God, one in effence, and three in perfons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghoft, Creator, Confervator, and remunerator, all powerful, all good, all bountiful, all wife; that the fecond Perfon, who is the Son of God, became man, and died upon the cross to fave me; and whatfoever the holy catholic, apoftolic, and Roman church, doth propofe unto me to believe.

I hope by the bounty of God, through the merits of my dear Saviour Jefus Chrift, the remiffion of all my fins and life everlasting.

I love God for his own fake alone,' with all my heart, with all my foul, and with all my ftrength.

I refign myself purely, intirely and abfolutely, to the difpofition of his moft holy, and always adorable will, being ready to do and fuffer, to be healthy and fick, to live and die, when and after what manner he pleases, his holy will be done. Amen, Amen.

I recommend my foul, and all that I am, to the interceffion of the glorious virgin Mary, my good mother and advocate, to St. Jofeph, and my angel-guardian, and to all the angels and faints of heaven, whom I moft humbly befeech to affift me at the hour of my death.

For my laft words, I fay in profound humility, and contrition of heart Jufus Maria, defiring to die in their bleffed arms. And when my tongue cannot pronounce these holy names, I defire to do it with my heart.

If my heart should fail me, with my judgment, I fay them now for then, with all affection, and poffible fubmiffion, Jefus Maria.

Nos cum prole pia, benedicat Virgo Maria.

Virgin-mother, I humbly crave,
Thy bleffing, and thy Son's to have..
