ON DEATH.

ALMIGHTY God, who hast been pleased to take away from among us one member of this family, sanctify to us who survive this affliction, and enable us to submit ourselves wholly to Thy will. Teach us to feel how frail and uncertain is our own condition, and so to number our days that we may seriously apply our hearts unto wisdom. O merciful God, Father of Him who is the resurrection and the life, we meekly beseech Thee to raise us from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness, that when we shall depart this life, each of us may sleep in Jesus Christ, as our hope is this our brother doth, and that at the general resurrection in the last day we may be found acceptable in Thy sight, and be made partakers of Thy glory with all those that are departed in Thy faith and fear, through Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Redeemer.

HYMNS

AND OTHER POEMS. HYMN I.

We would call Thee Abba, Father!

But our conscious hearts within, Deeply troubled, bid us rather

Bow before the Judge of sin.

God of love! Thy gentlest healing

Sooth our wounded spirits now! Let Thy grace, its source revealing,

Freshen every burning brow.

Veil, O veil Thine awful splendour,

Raise not in Thy wrath the rod! Merciful, in judgment tender,

Of long suffering is our God!

PSALM C.

YE lands! with gladness serve the Lord !

Come ye before Him, and rejoice! Let the round earth, with one accord,

Sing to our God with cheerful voice.

Know that the Lord is God alone,

Our Shepherd, He who made us all : We are His flock, to Him are known,

And keep His pasture, hear His call.

Enter His gates with thankful song,
And in His courts

your

God proclaim : To God your grateful hymn prolong,

And speak ye good of His high Name.

For He is gracious! He is good!

His mercy ever will endure ! Through changing time His truth has stood

Unchanging still, for ages sure !

KEN'S MORNING HYMN.

AWAKE! our souls, and with the sun
The daily course of duty run.
Shake off dull sloth, and gladly rise
To pay our morning sacrifice.

All praise to Him who safely kept,
And thus refreshed us while we slept.
Oh may we, when from death we wake,
His blessing and His love partake.

Direct, O Lord, control this day
All we design, or do, or say;
That all our powers, with all their might,
In Thy sole glory may unite.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host ; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
