8 And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coalt, as he hath iworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;

9 If thou shalt keep all thefe commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then thalt thou add three cities more for thec, befides thele three; 10 That innocent blood be not thed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and fo blood be upon thee.

11 But if any man hate his neighbour, and Be in wait for him, and rite up against him, and finite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities;

12 Then the elders of his city fhall fend and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

3 Thine eye thall nor pity kim; but thou thalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from firael, that it may go well with thee.

14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbours land-mark, which they of old time have fet In thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to poffefs it.

15 One witnefs fhall not rife up against a man for any iniquity or for any fin, in any fin that he finneth: at the mouth of two witneffes, or at the mouth of three witnelles, thall the matter be established.

16 If a falfe witnefs rife up against any man, to tellify against him that" which is wrong;

17 'Then both the men, between whom the controverly is, thall stand before the LORD, before the pricfts and the judges which thali be in those days.

18 And the judges thall make diligent in quifition: and, behold, if the witnefs be a falfe witness, and hath teftified falfely againft his brother;

19 Then thall ye do unto him as he had thought to have donc unto his brother: fo thalt thou put the evil away from among you. 20 And thofe which remain fhall hear, and fear, and fhall henceforth commit no more any fuch evil among you.

21 And thine eye ihall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, band for hand, foot for foot.

CHAP. XX.

The priefs exhortation to encourage the people to battle. 10 How to use the cities that accept or refufe the proclamation of peace. 16 What cities must be devoted.

4 For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your ene mies, to fave you.

5 And the officers hall fpeak unto the people, faying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated t let him go and return to his house, lest he dis in the battle, and another man dedicate it. 6 And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not get eaten of it! let him alfo go and return unto his houfe, lett be die in the battic, and another man eat of it.

7 And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her let him go and return unto his houfe, left he die in bat tle, and another man take her.

8 And the officers thall fpeak further into the people, and they thall lay, What man i there that is fearful and faint-hearted! let lum go and return unto his house, left his brethrem heart faint as well as his heart.

9 And it thall be, when the officers have made an end of fpeaking unto the people. that they thall make captains of the arms to lead the people.

10 When thou comett nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unte it.

11 And it fhall be, if it make thee aniver of peace, a open unto thee, then it thallit, that all the people that is found therein half be tributaries unto thee, and they thall ferve thee.

12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou thalt befiege it:

13 And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou that fmite every male thereof with the edge of the fword.

14 But the women, and the little one and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the fpoil thereof, thalt thou take una thyfelf: and thou shalt eat the fpoil of thine hemies, which the LORD thy God hath give

thee.

15 Thus fhalt thou do unto all the citis which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16 But of the cities of thefe people, which the Loan thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt fave alive nothing that breatheth:

17 But thou thalt utterly destroy them namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivite and the Jebufites, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done When thou goes out to eat her again unto their gods; fo fhould ye fin again the

enemies, and feett horfes chariots, and a people more than thou, benot afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

2 And it thall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the prick thall approach, and fpeak unto the people,

3 And fhall fay unto them, Hear, O Ifrael; we approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint: fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them:

LORD your God."

19 When thou shalt befiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou thalt not deftroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them for thon mayeft cat of them, and thou inalt not cut them down, (for the tree of the field is mans life to em ploy them in the fiege.

20 Only the trees which thou knowett that they be not trees for meat thou shalt deftro and cut them down; and thou shalt b bulwarks against the city that maketh wat with thee, until it be fubdued.

10 Thou fait not plow with an ox and an afs together.

11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of diverie forts, as of woollen and finen together. 12 Thou thalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy veiture, wherewith thou coveret thyself.

431 If any mantake a wife, and go-in un-
to her, and hate her,

And give occafions of speech against her
and bring up an evil name upon her, and say,
I took this woman, and, when I came to her,
I found her not a maid:

15Then thall the father of the damsel,and,
her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of
the damfels virginity unto the elders of the
city in the gate:

16 And the damfels father shall fay unto the
elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to
wife, and he hateth her;

17And,lo,he hath given occafions of speech
ogainst her, laving, I found not thy daughter
a maid; and yet there are the tokens of my
daughters virginity: and they shall tpread
the cloth before the elders of the city.
18 And the elders of that city thall take
that man, and chattife him.

19 And they shall amerce him in an hun-
dred shekels of filver, and give them unto the
father of the damfel, because he hath brought
up an evil name upon a virgin of Ifrael, and
the fhall be his wife; he may not put her
away all his days.

20 But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damfel;

21 They thall then bring out the damfel to the door of her fathers houfe, and the men of her city hall tone her with ftones that the die; because the hath wrought folly in Ifrael, to play the whore in her fathers houfe: to Chalt thou put evil away from among you.

22 If a man be found lying with a wo man married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the wornan, and the woman: fo thalt thou put away evil from Ifrael.

43 If a damfel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;

24 Then ye thall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye fhall tone them with tones that they die; the damfel, because the cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neigh bours wife: fo thou thalt put away evil from among you.

25 But if a man find a betrothed damfel in the field, and the man force her, and lic with her, then the man only that lay with her thali die:

26 But unto the damfel thou fhalt do no⚫thing; there is in the damfel no tin worthy of death for as when a man raifeth againt his neighbour, and flayeth him, even fo is this

matter:

17 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damfel cried, and there was none to lave her.

28 If a man find a damfel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

19 Then the man that lay with her thall give unto the damfels father fifty shekela of

filver, and the shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days,

301 A man fhall not take his fathers wife, nor difcover his fathers skirt.
