Doft therefore thou to him alone Commit thy finful foul? Knowing of thy falvation Thy Husband is the whole. SECT. III. Believers characterised by the objects and pu rity of their defire, delight, joy, hatred, and love, discovering they have the Spirit of Chrift. Dost thou his Spirit's conduct wait? And, when compar'd to this, Tak'ft thou his Spirit for thy guide In digging wells here by his power While here a drop, and there a shower, Hence doft thou through each weary cafe, The good, the gracious work begun, Shall profp'rous, though with wrestling, win Sin's power and presence canft thou own That makes thee fob, and weep alone? Does love to him make thee distaste Thy lufts with all their charms? And moft them loath'ft, when most thou haft Are cords of love the fweetest ties And beft thou ferv'ft when moft thou spies Didft ever thou thy pardon read When mercy made thy heart to bleed, Does pardon fweetly melt thy heart? And make thee long with dross to part, When he arifes lufts to kill, Does gladnefs then thy fpirit fill? Doft thou his perfon fair embrace Beyond his bleffings all? Sure, then, thou boldly mayft through grace Thy Husband Jefus call. What company doft thou prefer? What friends above the reft? Of all relations every where, Thy Husband is the best. Whom in the earth or heav'n dost thou Most ardently defire? Is love's afcending fpark unto Thy Husband fet on fire? Haft thou a hatred to his foes, And doft their courfe decline? Doft thou their talk and walk esteem, And favour'ft beft when moft they feem SECT. IV. Believers in Chrift affect his counsel, word, ordinances, appearance, full enjoyment in heaven, and fweet prefence here. WHERE go'ft thou firft when in a strait, His counfel feek'st thou ftill prepar'd, Canft thou produce no pleasant pawn, Won't fignets, bracelets, from his hand, Mind'st when he fent his healing word, Canft thou the promife fweet forget Thy Husband did impart. Doft thou affect his dwelling place, And mak'ft it thy repair: Because thine eyes have feen, through grace, Doft love his great appearing day, And thereon muse with joy; Where humid forrows lofing place, Long'ft to be free of ev'ry fault, To bid all fin adieu ? And mount the hill, where glad thou fhalt Life where it lives, love where it loves, Such love fick longing plainly proves SECT. V. The true Believer's humility, dependence, zeal, growth, admiration of free grace, and knowledge of Chrift's voice. PERHAPS a faint may figh and fay, "These marks of marriage love," yet stay, Thy Husband's bowels yearn. Though darkness may the light obfcure, And storms furmount thy calms, Day yield to night, and thou be poor, Doft fee thyfelf an empty brat, A poor unworthy thing, With heart upon the duft laid flat? Thy Husband there does reign. Art in thine own esteem a beast, The more thou haft of felf distaste, Canft find no names fo black, so vile, When his kind vifits make thee fee He knows what vifits fuit thy-ftate, Doft fee thou art both poor and weak, O do not his delays mistake, Thy Husband comes ere long. Though during Sinai's ftormy stay, The glorious Sun will rife apace, |
