The ORDER for

EVENING SERVICE.

Let the MINISTER Standing up, (foon after the Congregation are affembled, and it hath been notified by the Sound of a little Bell, or any other convenient Way to call to Attention,) begin by reading, audibly and diftinctly, as many of the following Sentences, as He shall think proper.

TH

HE Lord our God is gracious and merciful, longfuffering, and abundant in Goodness and Truth; keeping Mercy for thousands, forgiving Iniquity, Transgreffion and Sin, and will by no means clear the guilty, vifiting the Iniquity of the Fathers upon the Children, and upon the Children's Children, unto the third and fourth Generation and He will not turn away his Face from if you return unto Him. (Exod. xxxiv. 6, 7.—2 Chron. Xxx. 9.)

you,

THE Righteousness of the righteous fhall not deliver him in theDay of his Tranfgreffion: as for theWickedness of the wicked, he fhall not fall thereby, in the Day that he turneth from his Wickedness; neither fhall the righteous be able to live for his Righteousness in the Day that he finneth. When I fhall fay to the Righteous, that he fhall furely live: if he truft to his own Righteoufnefs, and commit Iniquity; all his Righteoufnefs fhall not be remembered; but for his Iniquity that he hath committed, he fhall die for it. (Ezek. xxxiii. 11, 12, 13.)

LET the wicked forfake his Way, and the unrighteous Man his Thoughts, and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have Mercy upon him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. (Ifai. lv. 7.)

WHEREWITH fhall we come before the Lord, and bow ourselves before the moft high God? He hath fhewed thee, O Man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of

thee,

thee, but to do juftly, to love Mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God (Micah vi. 6, 8.)

WASH ye, make ye clean, put away, the Evil of your Doings from before mine Eyes, cease to do Evil, learn to do well, feek Judgement, relieve the oppreffed, judge the fatherlefs, plead for the Widow. Come now and let us reafon together, faith the Lord, though your Sins be as Scarlet, they fhall be as white as Snow; though they be red like Crimson, they shall be as Wool. (Ifai. i. 16, 17, 18.) LET us take diligent heed to do the Commandments and the Laws of God, to love the Lord our God, to walk in all his Ways, to keep his Statutes, to cleave unto him, and to ferve him with all our Heart and with all our Soul. (Jofua xxii. 5.)

Now therefore in the Sight of the Congregation of the Lord, and in the Audience of our God, keep and feek for all the Commandments of the Lord your God; and know you the God of your Fathers, and ferve him with a perfect Heart, and with a willing Mind; for the Lord searcheth all Hearts, aud underftandeth all the Imaginations of the Thoughts: if thou feek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forfake him, he will caft thee off for ever. (1 Chron. xxi. 8, 9.)

WILL God indeed dwell on the Earth? behold the Heaven, and Heaven of Heavens, cannot contain Thee. Yet have Thou refpect unto the Prayers of thy Servants, and to their Supplications, O Lord our God, to hearken unto the Prayer, which thy Servants pray unto Thee, this Day. (1 Kings viii. 27, 28.)

t

GOD is a Spirit, and they that worship him, must worfhip him in Spirit and in Truth. And now is the Hour, when the true Worshippers fhall worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth, for the Father feeketh fuch to worship him. (John iv. 23, 24.)...

[On every Sonday, He fhall also read the following Verses from Ifai. Iviii. 13, 14. after any of the former, but not on other Days.

F thou turn away thy Foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy Pleasure on my holy Day, and call the Sabbath a Delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable, and

fhalt

fhalt honor him, not doing thine own Ways, nor finding thine own Pleasure, nor fpeaking thine own Words: then fhalt thou delight thyfelf in the Lord, and I will cause thee to ride upon the high Places of the Earth, and feed thee with the Heritage of Jacob thy Father; for the Mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.]

¶ Then All standing up, He shall say,

The Lord be with you.

EARLY BELOVED in Chrift Jefus our Lord,

We are now affembled together to offer up our united Praises and Supplications to almighty God, our heavenly Father, our Creator, Preferver, and continual Benefactor, to humble ourselves before Him for our manifold Tranfgreffions, to render Thanks to Him for the innumerable Mercies we have each of us received at his Hands, to acknowledge (as is juftly due) his glorious Perfections, his infinite Power and Goodnefs, with our conftant Dependence upon Him, to hear and attend to his holy Word, [and Commandments,] and to ask from Him thofe Bleffings, which are requifite and neceffary, as well for the Body as the Soul. And although the Remembrance of our Ingratitude and multiplied Offences might juftly deject us, and make us afhamed to lift up our Eyes to the Place where his Holiness dwelleth; yet fuch is his great Mercy in Chrift Jefus, that He not only fuffereth, but even inviteth Sinners to approach unto him; He defpifeth not the Sighing of a contrite Heart, nor the Defire of fuch as are truly penitent; and hath graciously affured us in his facred Scriptures of Truth, that although He that covereth his Sins fhall not profper, yet Whofo confeffeth and forfaketh them, fhall find Mercy and Forgiveness of the fame. Wherefore I entreat You, as many as are here prefent, to accompany me with a pure Heart and humble Voice, unto the Throne of the heavenly Grace, and with a ftedfaft Refolution to. forfake all your Iniquities and to reform your Lives, faying after me,
