' Thou hast ascended up on high, Thou hast led captivity captive: Thou hast received gifts for men; Yea, for the rebellious also; That the Lord God might dwell among them.' Ps. Lxviii. 18. By the witness of Love within me, a witness truly not of men, but of God, I see Jesus, as sent by the Father to seek the lost. I see God as the seeker, and that I myself am indeed only the sought. Who is this Jesus of whom I speak ? The answer to this question lies in a mystery, into which I cannot by nature look even in moments of highest experience. It is that mystery of Love, wherein two are one. This mystery of Love is high as heaven, deep as hell, to be comprehended only by the Infinite; to be apprehended only by such as receive of it; to be spoken of worthily in no human speech. Yet, desire to look into this mystery of Love, with all saints and angels, I may and do. And to the end of bringing my apprehension of it into clearer consciousness, I use the God gift of speech. I believe in one God. I see that Love is the unity of every diverse virtue. Even those qualities which seem mutually antagonistic, such as justice and mercy, are united in love. Therefore I believe that God is love. Further, I believe that no perfect good is possible without perfect bliss. If God be love, and if He bethat perfection, from whom we derive our consciousness of good, and of joy, for Love there must eternally be the Beloved, and that Beloved must be not only co-eternal, but co-equal; capable of receiving and of returning infinite love.
